The French Revolution began with the storming of the Bastille. Average citizens suffering economic and political turmoil took a stand against the ruling establishment. A government where the king and the elites had all the power. A political system that ignored the voice of it’s people.
The whole world watched as the media broadcast average citizens storming the capitol of the United States in Washington D.C. For the first time, alleged Trump supporters were shown acting in a violent manner. For the first time? At least a few hundred rallies were held with thousands attending and they were all peaceful. The only complaint you heard from the mainstream media was about the coronavirus being spread due to lack of masks and social distancing. These rallies were “superspreaders.” Even most of the “stop the steal” protests went without incident where there was no provocation. Anytime violent prone groups such as Antifa or Black Lives Matter invade the scene, it takes a saint to turn the other cheek. Self-defense, anyone?
I had just returned from Mexico with no idea of what was happening on this side of the border (a nice break from all the political chaos). It is true what they say: Ignorance is bliss. Next thing I know, the capitol was being overrun with protesters. And according to the news and my own eyes, Trump supporters were the culprits. I heard all the words I never heard during all the George Floyd riots: mob violence, domestic terrorists, thugs, FBI investigation. At least not from mainstream media. I distinctly remember a summer of burning buildings, burning vehicles, and a total disrespect of law and order. Enemies of democracy? If that also applies to Antifa and Black Lives Matter radicals then it is an appropriate choice of words.
Enough of the double standards. Politicians are calling for prosecution of the capitol rioters to the fullest extent. Don’t stop there. Start a full prosecution of all rioters that burned down their communities, attempted murder on their police, and terrorized anyone who disagreed with them. Violence is never an acceptable way to make your voice heard. I will admit that I was a little disappointed in what went down at the capitol. Okay, a lot disappointed. I am so tired of the news, the social media, and government constantly portraying Trump supporters in a negative light. What happened at the capitol just gave them more fuel for their fire. A fire that is meant to burn conservative voices. But fire is wild and those who play with it always get burned.
